computer-smand Information for Viewing Online Presentations

Distance Education Technology and Services (DETS) delivers courses online to remote students around the world. In order for DETS to provide the best experience for the student, we recommend that the students’ computer, laptop or portable device meets or exceeds the following specifications:

  • Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7 or later.
  • Internet Explorer 7.0 or later, Firefox 2.0 or later, or Google Chrome 1.0 (Chrome is only supported on Mediasite version 5.0.3 and later).
  • Broadband Internet connection (768 Kbps or more)

  • Mac OS X 10.4.8 or later.
  • Safari 2.0.4 or later or Firefox 2.0 or later.
  • Silverlight 5.0 or later (viewers are prompted to install this when attempting to view a presentation).
  • Broadband Internet connection (768 Kbps or more)

In addition to the information above, you can ensure that your computer is set up for a smooth video experience, by visiting Sonic Foundry's site requirements page.  The page tests if your computer meets the minimum requirements to run the video player.

The test checks the following components:

  • Browser
  • Silverlight version
  • JavaScript
  • Screen resolution

Note: Your browser window needs to have a minimum resolution of 1024x768.  1280x768 or a higher resolution is recommended for optimal viewing.

iPhone and iPad Touch

If you plan to use either an iPhone or iPad Touch to view the presentations, you will get the best viewing experience using the “Mediasite Mobile App” from the App Store.  This is a free download. Safari will play the presentation with some limitations.

The Mediasite Mobile App is available via the iTunes App Store.

If you plan to use an iPad for viewing of presentations, the Mediasite Mobile App is not necessary.  The presentations will play properly using the Safari browser.
